FRANKLIN MINT DOLL

GODDESS SELKET

was the ancient Egyptian scorpion goddess of magic. As with other dangerous goddesses, she was both a protective goddess, and one who punished the wrong doers with her burning wrath. She could punish those with the poison of a scorpion or snake, causing breathlessness and death, or she could protect against the same venom. Yet just as she could kill, she was thought to give breath to the justified dead, helping them be reborn in the afterlife.

  1. Hi Therese, I see an error on this page. The last doll, Cleopatra, is identified as a 1997 Maryse Nicole release. I believe this is not correct - and you are missing the actualy 1997 Maryse Nicole Cleopatra which does pop up on eBay - it has the glass eyes like most (all?) of the Maryse Nicole dolls. If you look at the catalog page you posted for Panther on the House of Erte page, you will see the Maryse Nicole "Cleopatra" doll. I cannot find the "Cleopatra" doll you have photographed on this page (last one) in any of the Franklin Heirloom Dolls catalog pages you have posted nor Doll Reader advertisements. HOWEVER, given the doll mark on her back, the stand she came with, and the similarity to the Queen Nefertiti sheer gold pleated dress material that seems to be the same on these 2 dolls, I am guessing that the last Cleopatra doll you list is one of the early Franklin Heirloom Dolls dolls - 1989 or earlier. Please reply if you ever see this and I will check it out. I hope you can find something in your Doll Readers or maybe you have earlier FHD catalogs now that you have not yet posted. THANK YOU for taking the zillions of hours to create this blog - I have spent HOURS AND HOURS researching dolls from a dear friend's estate that I was enlisted to sell. Blessings from USA.

  2. I have an update thanks to an eBay message. The last doll you have listed as Maryse Nicole "Cleopatra" is actually a doll called "Goddess Selket". I can find no information on her anywhere. It appears there were 4 total (excluding the 1997 Maryse Nicole Cleopatra) Egyptian dolls released as follows: ueen Nefertiti (1989-$245), Pharaoh Cleopatra (1992-$245), Goddess Isis (1998-$495). I am guessing Goddess Selket was released in the 1992-1998 timeframe but that is only a guess. A 1995 release would put them all in 3-year increment releases: 1989 - 1992 - [1995] - 1998. I don't believe you have the Isis doll but she is in one of your 1998 Catalogs. Your blog has helped me immensely with a doll collector friend's estate, I hope this is a little help in return.
